Poor Son has been trying to sell his car for months, off and on, on Craigslist. If you want to lose your sanity, sell on Craigslist. It's guaranteed to test your mettle. Guaranteed!
People weird out when they get on selling boards. Most of them care not one wit that they get your hopes up when they tell you they are interested and then you never hear back from them again. Many will even go so far as to say they'll come out and look at what your selling (or giving away) and then never show up. God bless'm. *sigh*
But there are those rare souls who actually do what they say they will, and it's because of them that I love Craigslist (sometimes). They make it worth the hassle of dealing with the other 99%. Yes, they are the 1%. WE are the 1% because we keep our word and don't play with people's lives and sanity. Is that too much to ask for??
So, yesterday Son just about gave away his car on Craigslist. It was the only way to sell it there. Despite all the work and expense he had put into it no one would pay him a decent price for it. I say decent as in what my husband constitutes as decent - my husband being the Seasoned Veteran of Selling Stuff.
The girl who bought it was a sweet thing who drove from over 2 hours away to check it out. She looked perfect for the car. Made me think of Mary Stuart Masterson's character Watts in Some Kind of Wonderful. You know, the girl drummer?
Except this girl had dark hair. But her personality reminded me of Watts. I half expected her to be carrying drumsticks! lolAnyway, despite the car selling for cheap, I was glad it went to her.
He did sell something else and got his asking price. But his asking price was a super deal, so no surprise there. What WAS a surprise was that the first person to call was also one of those 1%ers. She came right out and bought it. No shilly-shallying.
But that couch we keep trying to give away? Good grief, the flakes Hubs keeps dealing with! Thankfully, he takes it all in stride. But I sometimes have the urge to wring some necks, ya know?
Craigslist, a necessary evil in this world.

It's definitely rough out there! What with all the technology, you'd think it'd be easy as pie to match up people who need things with people who have surplus things...
It'd be easier were it not for sin, eh?
