Choosing to sell on Amazon was a very good idea. As of right now I've sold over $200 worth of books, dvds and cds in a week's time. Adding the smaller amount earned through Half.com sales since late December I've now got close to $250 to add to our van fund! And I still have lots of things for sale. The sales have been trickling in about one to three sales per day. It's very exciting to check my email these days!
If you have thought about getting rid of some of your books, dvds or cds, definitely give Amazon a try. Half.com is good, too, but seems to generate a lot less traffic to your stuff.
For books not worth selling, but still in great shape, try getting rid of them on PaperBackSwap.com. You won't get money, but you will get credits toward buying other books. I've gotten a number of books that way.

oh, hooray! I'm a big fan of paperback swap - and I totally cackle with glee when I am able to score a book on there that is selling for big bucks on ebay and/or not available on amazon.com. :>)
